Earth Paints  (School Journal Part 1 Number 5 2004)

Read the text on pages 14 and 15 to find the answers
What did traditional Aboriginal artists use paint for?
To Decorate their faces and bodies and to decorate  rocks and
walls.
What did they make their paint from?
Coloured rocks and clay
How many different types of soil did the children find in their district?

Match the soil to where they found it. The first one is done for you.
Soft brown soil - vegetable garden
Dark brown earth - in the Compost
Black peat - near a Swamp
Reddish-brown soil - under the bank
Yellow clay - beside the Stream
Blue clay - River
Orange clay - a Bank
Pinky-grey soil -  at Building Site
